Biography

Derek Werthwein is a high school film teacher with a background in producing and making films. Before teaching, Derek Werthwein worked on several independent films, gaining experience in all parts of film making, including directing, producing, and editing. This hands-on experience helps them bring real-world knowledge into the classroom.

In class, Derek Werthwein focuses on giving students practical skills while encouraging them to be creative and think outside the box. They believe in learning by doing, so students get to work with film equipment and technology to create their own projects. Derek Werthwein helps students develop their voice as filmmakers and pushes them to tell meaningful stories. Outside of teaching, they stay involved in the local film scene and keep up with industry trends.
