MAY PAVO RUDISILL Autobiography
May Pavo Rudisill is a dedicated Biology and Chemistry teacher with 27 years of experience in education. Specializing in advanced academic programs, May has taught GATE students in grades 6-8 and worked with the School for Advanced Studies, Intellectual High Ability, and Gifted Magnet programs. Recognized for excellence in teaching, May was honored as Teacher of the Year in Carson City, California, received the prestigious "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" award, and was a finalist for America's Favorite Teacher in 2025.
With expertise in student-centered learning, cooperative learning, and project-based learning, May designs fun, engaging, and standards-based lesson plans that emphasize group collaboration and discussion, fostering critical thinking and a passion for science in students. Additionally, May has mastered NGSS, phenomenon-based lessons, classroom management, and other advanced teaching methodologies, ensuring a dynamic and effective learning environment.
May has also invented innovative teaching strategies such as the Deal the Vocabulary Cards game, Class Infractions (CIs), Lab Stations, Inquiry-based labs, and more, helping students engage in interactive and hands-on learning experiences.
Beyond the classroom, May has a passion for charity work and created a non-profit organization consisting of students dedicated to helping others and making a difference in their community.
May has also served in various leadership roles, including mentor teacher, chairperson of the science department, SAS coordinator, GATE coordinator, lead teacher, leadership advisor, 8th grade sponsor, and Honors Society advisor.
